Aaaw , it ended too fast ! I love the way you write , I feel like I’m there , the cigarette got me. , I thought I’d die at 13 with my first cigarette ! Can’t wait for the next installment , Thank you ☺️

I’m so glad you like it. I’m a bit critical about my writing.

I know that feeling , I’m an artist and mostly I criticize my paintings , I read ALOT and you have that technique of making the reader feel it ! Great work

Thank you! This has gone through several iterations, including a revision request from a major publisher, and I'm always afraid I've cut too much.

As a fellow artist, I fully agree on our critic sides and Ellie’s ability to draw out the reader’s feelings.

Great second chapter. So much of Fe reminded me of me at that age. Completely different circumstances, but a totally relatable sense of self.

I’m glad she’s a relatable character. I wanted to create a little moral ambiguity that will pop up later (she’s a little messy), but I think we can all relate to imperfections

Oh, cool, it’s here. Plan to read right after dinner. Thanks!

So good. Really enjoying it. Still have the third to read.

Well done, Ellie!

The third has a lot of triggers, so I posted a gentle version (linked at the top of #3) in case you prefer it a little more summarized.

Too Much Margaret's avatar

Nah. I’ll read it as it’s meant to be. Cool you did that though.

Okay, great ;)

I really think it’s important to actually pay a compliment or make a comment. I know I often feel my writing goes out into some black hole. I can see it’s being read, people subscribe, but say nothing. But, I’m older. Maybe that’s just the way it’s done now.

Looking forward to 3, but not just before bed. Thanks for the caution.

Yes, for sure. It's a story that sticks with me, and is one of rebirth (and a little revenge), but there are hard parts. I have a soundtrack for the whole thing that I used, that I've thought about posting alongside.

Too Much Margaret's avatar

Oh, you should! Cool idea. Did you use the soundtrack during the development of it, or the soundtrack resulted from the story?

Ellie Leonard's avatar

All along the way. It’s really more of a playlist.

I could have been friends with Faye if her daddy would have allowed it. Messy heroines are the best kind! Love that you're releasing her story in installments, it's a great way to get to know the characters, kind of like fostering a friendship.

I’m so glad you liked it. She’s definitely messy

I like it Ellie, looking forward to the next chapter. Unfortunately for me, I did not have the same reaction to my first cigarette. Took most of my life to rid myself of that addiction.

Ellie Leonard's avatar

But you did!

You have a way of taking the reader there; I could picture being in your room and how lonely you felt.

Well-done, Ellie! Again, wonderfully descriptive. The “a snack for later maybe” comment on the dribble of gravy on daddy’s numerous chins was priceless. So much imagery came to mind when I was readying. I kept seeing Julie Harris in Carson McCuller’s Member of the Wedding from the 1952 film. Fe’s introspective dream before the mirror presented all the awkward longings of a young girl wanting to bust out of her life as much as she physically was doing in her clothes. Loved that she wanted chucks to wear (B&W or color?). The “guy” is an interesting mixture of a James Dean, both worldly and average Joe with grease stained hands. I anticipate a lot of tension coming. Looking forward to the next installment. Thank you.

Thank you, I love the thorough review! More to come ;)

A week is too long to wait!🙁.

Ellie! This is excellent! You have a way of writing that makes me feel like I am there. Living this girl's life right along beside her.

I’m only on Chapter 2, and look forward to binging!

Hi Ellie. For me the book made me think about how life can make you satisfied with very little. It made me happy. I really enjoyed reading. Thanks
