In 2014 , I lived In Maine. My father and I had a bad argument. He used the N . Word, I told him not in my house 🏠. Not ever . It was about, President Obama. I told him how dare you sir. I felt really bad, he was not that educated when it comes to civil rights issues. He had to quit school, because of family finances. I told him you might want to go back and get your, High School Diploma. I said papa you have lived a long life thus far and have a lot to share with these young mind in school. He said no , I guess, I hurt his male ego or pride. When he eventually came back to , Kansas according to family, he went drove over to Dodge City, and made sure the polling place was open and that anyone could vote 🗳️. He apparently told the city clerk. He was there to see that everyone, including, African Americans. Apparently he said, well my daughter told me that racism or bigotry was wrong. My daughter told me that in no uncertain terms. That dear father of mine in his early nineties had learned something from an argument, between him and I. By the way he voted for President Biden and Vice President Harris. In 1943 , he went to war . That was WW2. My grandparents, signed his permission as he was only 15 a big person for his age. He passed away in August 2021. As for my self, I was so very proud he learned to conquer bigotry and learned what people are all about. God Bless, Ellie and Goodnight 💤😘🌙😴.

That’s so awesome! Did you know at the time the argument ended that you had convinced him of the truth?

His courage from me was to later learn through ancestry, he went into the service at age 15, his parents, my grandparents gave their consent for service during WW2. I held his hands while visiting him in a medical lodge, her in Coffeyville. I couldn’t hug him because of the coronavirus. Although I had my shots. To this day , I cried because, I missed my hug. I believe he is in a better place. .

No I didn’t at the time, he left to go to Oregon as he was still trying to get my mother, to marry him instead of a common law , marriage which is recognized in Ks. Today. I found out through friends, that were shocked, that he wanted those doors open for voters in Dodge, Ks. Apparently he told people that my daughter said we are brothers and sisters, no matter race, sexual orientation. That we all need to learn how to have faith, hope and compassion and always do the correct ☑️ thing.

I fear this is just the beginning of the government’s negligence when it comes to climate change-related disasters.

Yes Ellie I am 76 and have never experienced such fear for my family and my dog. I live in a hurricane susceptible zone and I am a paraplegic from a yacht accident 13 years ago I am worried myself over this total change in our government. The way that our allies look at America now is so sad. My heart is broken over the loss of all life and especially the children. Let’s Pray for all

I do every day, Eileen. We live on the East Coast, in the path of Hurricane Sandy (we weren't there then), and I think about when it will happen again, and how much worse it could be. My husband works underground in NYC, and my kids and I are at sea level all day. It's terrifying.

71, I will be fine, my kids will be fine. The world my grandchildren will inherit is nothing like it should be. In 10-20 years, what will people be like? I thought, on good days still think, that we all gravitate to the good.

It will be disastrous this fall along the East Coast during the next hurricane season. With most of the forecasters and major geological Scott predicting hurricanes and the track they will take will be virtually impossible. People who are all warnings will not be available to do so therefore tens of thousands of people are going to be put at risk from the weather that hurricanes bring; tornadoes, torrential rains super times. No one on these seaboard will have any warning as to when one of these weather phenomenon is about to hit their area. Trump is an evil, ignorant individual appears oblivious to the havoc. His policies are gonna reek upon the US eastern seaboard.

Oh my Ellie I understand your worry. I am an ex New Yorker myself and living in Houston closer to Galveston. My whole family is here I hoped for us to be altogether and now living so close to the golf keeps me worried a lot. We have to facilitate changes the best we can. You are an amazing talented writer and sound like an amazing Mother. My Motto is When You Can’t Stand Up Stand Out!

This administration of fools, cowards, lunatics, liars, freaked out whackos and nut jobs are making insane claims about “them” manipulating weather - them being Democrats and scientists. Are we able to fix this before tens of thousands of lives are lost to weather tragedies, preventable diseases, hunger and no medical care? This massive collection of crooks and pieces of s___ should be charged with negligent homicide.

Unfortunately we have a mad man running our country, and too many minions willing to sell out all of us. I’m sad and furious at the same time. The midterm elections can’t come soon enough. Hopefully those who voted for dumpy will see the errors of their ways. I say

VOTE BLUE regardless of your party affiliation. The Republican Party no longer exists because of dumpy.

Twenty five years ago. I bought my grandmother’s home in Thayer, Kansas, I just came back from. Wichita, Kansas. They had a tornado 🌪️ happen on highway one 169. It blew right down the highway. I caught the end of it and got a real bath . Soak and wet trying to talk with my father on the phone. He was chuckling a lot . He asked did you enjoy the bath you got, he said. I said papa, I am trying to get in the house and , I am tired from the over six trip thanks a lot. Then he asked if , I was okay. I said yes sir , I am. He told me as young man. He witnessed many tornadoes. 🌪️. He told me yes be afraid, but learn to confront the fear you have.

This reminded me of my father, Reagan/Rockefeller Republican. In his last years he turned away from the party; voted for Obama, his last vote. God, how he would have hated Trump! And have seen right through him from the jump: here in NYS we’ve had his number for a long time. Thanks for sharing your story - you just never know who is out there listening and hopefully learning.
