Ellie, I hate this is happening to you and your family. Unfortunately it was bound to occur. Night shifter here. I had a human predator on my farm. I have since moved. I will ALWAYS have a Mastiff now.
I did my research. I now have my third Mastiff. All were rescued or rehomed. Maybe I was lucky. No training was necessary as they all exhibited innate protective behaviors. Assess the situation before reacting, always positioning themselves between me and the door or any possible avenue of approach. Patient and quiet. Not to mention the intimidation of their sheer size and appearance. Good fit for this senior woman. Also low energy, good for long naps.
I had a special sponge mop I used to only use to clean slobber off my ceilings or walls from the juicy fur kids! It was never used for the floor so I didn't have to worry about dog hair or dirt getting on the walls or ceiling that way. Clothing, you just toss in the washer. :)
OMG! I absolutely LOOOVE Mastiffs! I fostered a couple of them when I used to be involved Great Dane rescue years ago! They are awesome doggos! I always had five to seven big fur kids in my household! Four of my own Danes and then varying numbers of fosters! It was heaven!
I had always had Collies, think Lassie. I had always had more than a passing interest in Bullmastiffs due to their designed purpose. So when I needed a protection type dog my first choice was a Bullmastiff. My first was a newly spayed adult who had whelped several times with minimal history. She was amazing. Second choice was English Mastiff. After I lost my Bullmastiff I had an intact male English Mastiff. My daughter moved out with him and a couple years later I got my current EM at age 3. No better breed for me.
Keep safe. You need to OVERREACT now. Make a paper trail, get legal and personal/home security help. Ask Malcolm Nance, Jacob Kaarsbo, or Aaron Parnas for advice on security. May God bless and protect you and your family.

I’d suggest you find a gun shop with a training range and start posting targets as you become highly proficient with a 9mm handgun.
And, make it clear you will not hesitate to use it if you are attacked.
That may all sound raw — but for those of us who have every intention of ‘standing our ground’ in defense of our Republic, it’s just the way it’s going to be for a while.

This seems tough. Probably good to take seriously. I considered it once and I'm pretty sure I'd be killed instead if I had access to a gun. I had good aim, but I don't have innate confidence! It's a complicated idea.
Krav Maga classes are excellent for self-defense, and she can take them with her kids. We did that years ago, and it made me feel better. Some studios have free sessions, I highly recommend it. 🫶
I felt the same but took a class for a carry permit and learned so much about how to be Aware, how to train to react, what to say and remember to remove oneself from certain locations or circumstances so that the actual need to use a weapon is reduced but to be confidant if required.

But, like them I have loved ones and dear furry friends, so if threatened in any way, I’d be on the firing range several hours a week refreshing my skills — which are way more than how pull a trigger.
Most importantly, I would not hesitate a nanosecond to use those skills.
My hope for you and your loved ones is that you are spared any threats or worse.
Of course Ms @Ellie Leonard wouldn’t — when encountering non-lethal threatening situations which hopefully will be the only situations she encounters for the remainder of her lovely life.

Be as angry and protective for yourself as you would be for someone else.
Have security for your home.
Drive your kids to school.
Report everything to the police and FBI.
Get a dart board or a punching bag or whatever physical activity translates the flight response to fight.
Go online and talk whenever it helps. You have Many people who care and will listen and send protective energy to you.

I thought I was the only crazy guy who had 3 big 200+ pounders that loved my bed when I happened to be in it….enjoy the they’re great companions!
