While he lay in his hospital bed recovering from an unknown, albeit benign, illness, Mitch McConnell spent the last day or so calling all of his conservative besties. And to play it fair, he spent no greater or less time with anyone who might be deemed as a “favorite” for the sallow-faced elder statesmen.

Under Kentucky law, set by Republicans to foil the Democratic governor from picking congressional replacements, Andy Beshear cannot replace McConnell. It has to be by special election and there is most likely not time enough before the midterms. The old “shoot yourself in the foot” gang has struck again.
The problem was never whether Mitch McConnell could make another public appearance.
The problem is that a political establishment spent weeks insisting Americans shouldn’t believe what they could plainly see, then expected everyone to pretend the questions were never legitimate.
Trust isn’t restored by saying, “Move along.” It’s restored by telling the truth—even when it’s inconvenient.
