Tonight, because I love math, and because we've been talking about the "Big Beautiful Bill” quite a bit lately, I thought we could take a look at the state of money in America and how to actually save a few dollars around here.
My husband and I are on a fixed income and still manage to spend $100.00 a month on charities, not counting what I donate to whatever charity our local stores are supporting in the checkout line!
You’re next on my list to subscribe to. I’m waiting until my husband’s retirement pay cut kicks in next month to see what we have leftover.
We have 3 grandchildren that we spoil as much as possible and an adult daughter that’s a
NURSE(!) in Alabama that we need to help occasionally. Can you believe it, a NURSE! She barely makes a living wage so if something breaks down she needs help!
I have multiple subscriptions on Substack that’s my personal splurge.
We donate to Unbound, St. Jude, and ACLU.
it makes me nauseous to think of how many people could be helped with even a 10th of their money!
Take your time, I always keep my articles paywall free for anyone who wants to read, thank you for checking in and helping, you are making a difference ❤️
Great post! I believe that tRUMPs moral compass is lower than a snake’s navel.
But is beyond belief that the entire Republican Party is so spineless and corrupt that they sold their constituents down the toilet when they passed the Big Horrible Lie-Filled Bill.
I guess that greed is more motivation than doing the right thing for children, the homeless, the hungry, the poor, or the physically/mentally ill, the elderly. Basically anyone in our society who is vulnerable or has special needs.
So the ultra- wealthy are going to get more money from the government and the poor will lose the most.
What a sad commentary on the state of our country. It’s shameful. This is not the America I want my children and grandchildren to live in.
It really is shameful, and I try to teach my kids generosity every day even if it's on a much smaller level. Give what you have. Thank you for reading, Joyce ;)
My partner and I, on a fixed income, give away 14% monthly to church and other charitable causes. Apply that process to the 10 wealthiest and they could still stuff their mattress with $1000 bills. Go figure?…..
I think their mentalities on it all are just too screwed up to fix at this point. Like, the bigger my back account, maybe my pee pee won't look so small, among other issues only AMERICAN PSYCHOS can totally relate to. Ugh... if only...
Loved this post. I watched a YouTube once about housing and feeding every needy person in America. They had geographical data about every church in America. If every church took 2 families each it would solve hunger and homelessness. In my humble opinion, we shouldn’t have 1 hungry person in this country.
When this over and the rebuilding starts, if it does, I hope it starts in the schools with the young. Kick out the mothers and fathers that ban books and open thinking. Religion needs to be sent back to the churches. History needs to be forefront. Civics needs to be stressed and parents need to be more involved. Maybe they need to do some homework and be graded on it! It will take more than one generation to fix everything that Trump and the White Christian Nationalist Community has destroyed.
The progressive tax brackets in the 1950s and 1960s (when the interstate highway system was built, the federal government spent money on equipment for a good science education in public schools, and Medicare was started) began during WWII and Korea, but was eroded to pay for Vietnam, causing stagflation in the 1970s, then ended under Reagan. Completely ended. Since then, our GDP has grown tremendously - but not wages. Guys think it’s women and blacks keeping their wages low. Nope. It’s the military-industrial-government complex.
My grandson had an assignment one weekend: spend Bill Gates’ money. That is, his assignment was to come up with a budget equal to what Bill Gates possessed (back when he was the richest guy - and at least then he contributed to charities),
My grandson, at 12, was pretty bright and very interested in pretending he was the richest man in the world for one weekend.
Couldn’t do it.
He bought airplanes and yachts and private islands, universities, and buildings - just made dents in the fortune.
Best article to reStack and repost everywhere you can. Excellent post! Thank you! Having 100s of Billions is an atrocity! Should be illegal! Greed at its height! Impossible to spend it all. Yet people are in need. And they all support the deadly Seditionist removing Medicaid! The Let-them-Eat-Cake-Crowd!
Why do people need all that money?

Hard to believe Trump states this bill has a little for everyone. Why can’t the people that voted for him see what we see. He is a down right liar!
Priorities will have to change when we get on the other side of this mess.
I agree. We need to suck it up and start looking at how other countries are so happy.
You have a gift that not all have. Please keep writing the truth!
Thanks Eileen, I appreciate so much that you’re reading these❤️
In the 1950s, the US had the most healthy middle and working class economy. The top bracket was taxed at 91% on what would be the equivalent of earnings in excess of $1.1M today. https://taxfoundation.org/data/all/federal/historical-income-tax-rates-brackets/

Yep, isn’t that always the way it works…
Thanks for giving, you’re a good person.

Agreed. Emphasis on greed.
Bank***
I find this piece informative, insightful, educational and true to the core.
I agree with you, emphasis on being very greedy. Well written, Ellie goodnight 😴 I.

Quite a learning experience. For all of us.
You forgot social security, they are keeping their covetous eye on. The begrudge us our own money.
